New evidence of harassment of Somalis in the small Swedish town of Forserum which some 60 minority of Somalis who live there and who are leavening the city has now been revealed.
In a meeting on Tuesday where several authorities and Muslim organizations met, it was revealed that a Somali woman was forced by some harassing youths and gangs to pour milk on her so as to mask her back skin colour.
"At one time a Somali woman was asked to pour milk over her to symbolize that she should be white," says Rashid Musa, a Muslim Human Rights Committee member to Swedish television.
Other stories of harassment focused on stone throwing, girls who have had their scarves torn and women who where spat on. Several participants in the meeting considered it pointless to go to the police.
Community police Anders Borg Ydre believe that language problems may underlie the reason why formal police reports were not prepared in some cases.
Councillor Anders Karlsson (centre party) who had previously pointed out that youth gangs behind the harassment had nothing to do with racism, now wants to agree with the rest.
"The overall picture is that we clearly see racism in this and racism throughout society," said Karlsson to Swedish television.
As we reported last week, the Somalis in the town of Forserum, had decided to leave the town because while they were being harassed, the police and politicians stood by and watched. After boycotting school and other public appearances, the community started realising that it was a serious issues and last Saturday, there was a match in town to support them.
