UK job market continue to improve but London remains flat

Unemployment in the UK fell by 82,000 in the three months to October blamed on private sector, which created jobs faster than they were being shed in the public sector.

According to latest data released by the Office for National Statistics, the number of people in work reached a record high of 29.6million over the three months to October.

The employment rate was 71.2 per cent, up 0.1 on the previous quarter and up 0.9 per cent year on year. Unemployment fell to 7.8 per cent, with 2.51 million people out of work over the quarter – down 128,000 on a year before.

Meanwhile, the number of people claiming jobless benefits fell 3,000 in November.

London joined other two regions in Britain to see an increase in unemployment in the previous quarter. In London an extra 5,000 people join the ranks of unemployed.
