Swedish governing party, The Centre party calls for open immigration, minister reject the approach

Sunday, 16 December 2012
The Swedish governing party and one of the Alliance coalitions has called on the Swedish government to open its borders for more immigrants to come in. This will help Sweden in the long run and also create labour flexibility. But the migration minister, Tobias Billström (pictured below) has rejected such approach insisting that Sweden will continue to have controlled immigration policy.

"Within the coalition, we suggest in our proposal to have a free immigration policy. We have long talked about equal rights and value, and this is the natural consequence of it," says Per Ankersjö, chairman of the Centre Party who design the proposal to Swedish television.

According to Ankersjö,  open borders is necessary, partly because of lack of man power and the high proportion of elderly people in Sweden today and in the future.

"We are dying out in many parts of Sweden. There are a very high proportion of older people in many places. At the same time, we must have new generations who'll work and make money thus supporting the pension system and social security," he says.

He believe that with open borders, one can also get a larger distribution of people throughout Sweden - to areas where there are fewer immigrants today.

Centre Party and Per Ankersjö want Sweden to be a country where people can come to with a dream to build a future while at the same helping Sweden develop and grow.

"We also believe, based on how economies look out into the world, that countries that have allowed immigration are countries that are well put together."

Taking about the many immigrants who are already in Sweden but can't find a job, Ankersjö agreed that it is a fact but also blame the system for various barriers and bottleneck. These need review because an immigrant already here wants to work. "They did not leave their countries and come here to live on handouts. They want to work and contribute something that is good for Sweden as well as for them."

However, all these look like wishful thing because the minister in charge of that department says NO!
"From my point of view this proposal is not possible to be implemented. My opinion is that Sweden has, and should have a regulated immigration and that it is the best for our country," said Tobias Billström to Swedish television.

According Billström there are a variety of problems with free immigration, - the biggest being that of serious consequences such as exploitation or immigrations end up in a situation of dependence after getting here. According him there are obvious problems in relation to organized crime that must be considered.

"In addition, Sweden is also a member of the EU and must abide by the regulations that the EU has set, which says that we must control our borders - because of that this proposal is not implementable," he says.
