UK Secretary of State John Kerry visits Sweden to participate in Artic council meeting

U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry touched down at Stockholm's Arlanda airport today for a visit to Sweden to participate in the Arctic Council's meeting held in Sweden.

Kerry will be meeting the Swedish Prime Ministe, Fredrik Reinfeldt and Foreign Minister Carl Bildt tofay. Kerry and Bildt will travel then to Kiruna for the meeting.

According to the Swedish Prime Minister, Kerry would get a Swedish analysis of developments in Europe and the EU.. U.S. State Department also expects talks on Afghanistan, Iran and Syria with their Swedish counterparts, reports Swedish news agency, TT.

During the meeting in Kiruna, the ministers will sign an agreement on preparedness for response to oil pollution in the Arctic. Although research on biodiversity and the review of the regulatory framework for the Arctic marine environment will be discussed.

Russian and U.S. foreign ministers will hold bilateral discussions in the context of the Arctic Council meeting in Kiruna on Tuesday, announced Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Sergei Rjabkov according to Swedish media report.

According Rjabkov, the talk is a continuation of the meeting between Lavrov and John Kerry which which was held in Moscow in May 8. The agenda for the meeting in Kiruna is still "under development," says Rjabkov.

Some 300 ministers from eight countries attended the meeting they include Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Russia, Canada, USA and Iceland.

The meeting lasts two days and meeting marks the end of Sweden's chairmanship of the Arctic Council.
