Swedish military instructors can be sent to Mali as the rebels reported to being decimated

Monday, 14 January 2013
Sweden may send between 12 and 15 military instructors to Mali, in response to EU's call for such action.
The idea is that the instructors will assist in quick training of Mali's own security forces so that they can then be inserted into the combat zone as the fight against the Islamism heightens.

Those that could be sent include specialist to teach things such as general weapons training and combat in small units, according to Anders Silwer, Armed Forces mission manager reports radio Sweden.

According to media reports, he posit that it is reasonable to believe that the Swedish instructors would be Mali for only a few months, as the situation changed after the French attack over the weekend.

Reports hold that Islamist militants are fleeing major towns in northern Mali after two days of air strikes by French troops, which sources say have left scores of rebels dead.
French fighter jets have pounded insurgent training camps, arms and oil depots as the French defence ministry confirmed reports of Islamist deaths, together with at least 11 civilians including three children, report the Guardian Newspaper.
In the means time, Abu Dardar, the leader of the Movement for Unity and Jihad in West Africa (Mujao) said, "France has attacked Islam. We will strike at the heart of France." (pictured; Malian Rebels, img RFi)

The group is believed to be a branch of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (Aqim), and have supervised the kidnapping of several Europeans in the Islamist controlled areas in Africa.
In order to decimate the group and push them from incubating in some of the poorest less militarily protected countries it makes sense to strike at those trying to create chaos in Mali. This is why "Mali is now at the mercy of the French army," said a well-connected Malian official in Bamako reports the Guradian Newspaper. "They are bombing the north, they have killed many terrorists. The Islamists have been running into the desert – they have deserted Gao and Timbuktu."

Swedish media sources report that France has called the UN Security Council at the meeting on Monday about the conflict in Mali, a French spokesman for the French UN delegation is reported to have said on Sunday.

"The Security Council will meet on Monday at 12 noon local time on request from France to discuss the situation in Mali," he said.
