Swedish far right party continues to grow as it recruited most new members.

Sweden Democrats and the Left Part are the only parliamentary parties in Sweden receiving more membership registration, according to a news media review. All the other parties will continue to lose and the Greens are reported to have lost the most members.
Far right party, Sweden Democrats noted the highest increase in new membership, an increase of 48 percent compared with 2011. Then, the party had 5,343 members but by the end of 2012, its membership now stands at somewhere 7890, according to Swedish media reports

The Left Party, which could also be considered as a Leftist populist party, saw its membership increase by 9 percent, or 1,028 more members.
"The numbers speaks for themselves. People seek out the extremes, rather than the middle, "says political scientist Mikael Persson of University of Gothenburg, according to Swedish news agency TT.

In the other parties, the numbers are reversing to minus figures, with the most dropped being the Green Party by 9 percent. The two major parties, Social Democrats and the governing conservative Moderate party, lost some similar percentage point each. The Moderates dropped 5 percent, while the Social Democrats dropped 4 percent.

"The mood in the party is good and it recruited a lot of new members, many of them young. The fact that despite everything, we are loosing members shows that we have to work even harder, "said party secretary, Carin Jämtin.

Christian Democrats lost the least, 3 percent, while the Centre Party sloped 5 percent. The People's Party's figures have not yet been reported, but the forecast indicates not to an increase in membership.

The gloomy economic situation means that many people are loosing interest in politics - especially politics of negotiation and compromise. They are either opting for extreme politics - left or right or they are just abstaining form politics all together.
