Danish Food Minister furious with Sweden over Swedish contaminated fish illegally sold to Denmark
Wednesday, 08 May 2013
Danish food, agriculture, and fisheries minister, Mette Gjerskov is livid after the news that Swedish toxic fish has been illegally exported to his country.
Gjerskov has asked her country's animal and veterinary and food administration (DVFA) to investigate the claim that illegal and toxic Swedish salmon has been consumed in Denmark.
The Minister, believe it is totally unacceptable that there has been export of dioxin salmon from Sweden.
"I have asked the DVFA to investigate the matter immediately, and I will follow the case closely," said the Minister.
The announcement comes after it emerged that hundreds of tons of dangerous Baltic salmon has been illegally exported to unsuspecting consumers in the EU - and also targeting Danish consumers.
The minister took a bitter swipe at Sweden as if Sweden is a rough state: "Danish consumers should not eat Swedish salmon pollutants. We do not want illegal goods in our coolers."
Since 2002 the EU has had limits that might contain poison dioxin, which is believed to be carcinogenic and affect fertility.
Sweden has, however, had an exception to the limits, and exports of salmon from Sweden are prohibited within the EU. Finland and Latvia has similar exceptions.
