One of the greatest successes of Swedish competitiveness is its ability to organise some of the best childcare systems, to be seen anywhere in the world. The Swedish model seems attractive across the ocean, on the other side.
Clearly, leading women managers find it hard to mix child bearing and career due to lack of sufficient childcare system. For example, one of the stifling effects of the British persistent failure to be economically competitive is it very deplorable childcare system which is very costly and poorly accessible.
The Swedish system is beginning to attract attention from the USA, and that, Maud Olofsson, the former Swedish minister of industries want to expand it there. Being a member of a group of leading professional women put together by U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, she has now submitted its first report on the issue.
Olofsson group aimed at strengthening women's economic position in the world, the International Council on Women's Business Leadership.
Now, they have submitted a first report dealing with childcare, working hours, among others to the Americans who were hesitant in the beginning:
"When we started talking about this work-life balance and childcare, elderly care and services, and other things, they were quite hesitant. But as they began to see that even Hillary Clinton's close associates stopped heir careers because they could not find suitable child care, and safe guard for their families, they began to see which female leaders choose to have children. It turn out that there was less and less," says Olofsson.
Another point in the report is that the group think that all the major organs, such as the UN, EU and IMF, should set requirements for the influence of women when they go in with assistance or financial support.
