Increase cases of Influenza in Sweden
Wednesday, 02 January 2013There are concerns that cases of influenza or flu is now spreading rapidly in Sweden.
Reports out today from the health authorities state the growth of cold related illnesses and it's also a concern for the healthcare system.
"We are seeing an increase across the country and laboratories confirmed influenza. Until Christmas Eve, 193 cases had been observed since winter began, most have turned to the hospitals, and health centres for support. Almost anyone can get cure for himself or herself at home but a small part has been hospitalized, "says epidemiologist
Hélène Englund at the Swedish Infectious Diseases Institute.
In Norway, many hospitals reported increased flu-infection, but only about twenty or so were hard hit that they were hospitalised. Last week an eleven-year-old boy died of swine flu.
"Here in Sweden , it is normal that one could say, more and more are infected and the peak was reached in a month, "says Hélène Englund.
