Sweden heads the OECD countries in the provision of economic aid
Thursday, 05 April 2012
Sweden came out on top in the world in 2011 in terms of provision of
economic aid as a proportion of gross national product (GNP), according
to the economic cooperation organization OECD.
Swedish development assistance during the year amounted to Skr36
billion, about 1.02 percent of GNI. This compares favourably with the
UN target of 0.70 percent of GNP in aid, write the Swedish Foreign
office, in a statement.
The largest volume of economic assistance will come from large countries like the U.S. and Germany.
