Governing coalition party, Centre party would love to see more tolls created
Monday, 23 April 2012
One of the Swedish governing coalition parties, Centre Party would like
that more Swedish cities should follow Stockholm, Gothenburg and to set
congestion charges.
The party's new infrastructure program mentioned Uppsala and Linköping as possible candidates to follow.
The party wants the number of journeys on public transportnto double
and that a cross-regional payment system is introduced to simplify
travel from county to county, writes the party leader Annie Loof and
the party's traffic spokesperson, Anders Åkesson, on the Swedish daily
Dagens Nyheter’s debate page.
The question now is whether congestion charge police will be popular
with the people. There were protests in Gothenburg when the congestion
prising system was proposed there. The Centre party has not been
performing well in the opinion polls of late. The doubt now is whether
such approaches will help the party’s standing.
