More Swedish women succeeding in breaking the glass ceiling in top management positions
Monday, 18 June 2012
For long now, Norway had been the real egalitarian society where more
women have been organically climbing the management ladder than
anywhere else in the western world. In Sweden though the dream of a
diverse management culture where women will give a hot at the top
position had been in the past year more talks than action.
This is
gradually changing as the proportions of women in the top of Swedish
listed companies’ boards have this year fallen slightly, according to
the AP Fund's Women's Index.
This year, women reached a share of 22.7 percent, compared with 22.9
percent last year. Meanwhile, the proportion of women in top management
increased to 16.3 percent, the highest figure since the fund began
measuring in 2003.
If the current pace continues, it will take 27 years before the boards
will be made up to half of women and as many as 52 years before the
company management will consists of 50 percent women.
Talking of manly Sweden...
