Gonorrhoea in women in Sweden increases sharply
Thursday, 24 May 2012
Sexually transited disease, particularly gonorrhoea is increasing
especially among women in the Stockholm area where the infection is
increasing most.
According to figures from the Swedish Infectious Diseases Institute, in
its annual report, which show a rise last year of 568 cases of
gonorrhoea in Stockholm, and 185 of those infected, were women. That is
an increase of nearly 90 percent compared to 2010.
But still gonorrhoea is twice as common among men as among women. Total
cases reported in the country are 951 of gonorrhoea last year.
Meanwhile, the number of bacterial strains that are resistant to
antibiotics has increased, and that is something that worries authority
because those infected are increasing among young people. The effect is
that because as gonorrhoea is cured with anti biotic, resistance to the
antibiotic is not would mean that the dieses will not be cured and this
could lead to impotence.
