Persistent fall for Volvo group as truck deliveries plummeted
Wednesday, 20 February 2013Weak demand especially in its lead market Europe has driven Swedish truck maker, Volvo Group to see it's truck deliveries plummeted to 10,791 items in January, down 23 percent compared with the same month in 2012.
The downturn in Europe and North America were of 30 and 38 percent, while deliveries in South America rose 36 percent, Volvo writes in its Monthly Bulletin of supplies.
For heavy trucks , there was a decline of 19 percent to 8830 items. For truck brand Volvo there was a decline of 18 percent to 5,575 vehicles delivered. Among the group's other brands fall was recorded of 29 percent of Renault Trucks, 32 percent of the UD, 3 percent of Eicher and 18 percent for Mack.
Volvo reduced its deliveries of Volvo trucks in Europe in January as a result of reduced production rates during December 2012 and January 2013, and low economic activity in the region.
Supply reduction of Volvo Trucks in North America can be traced to lower production partly because of two weeks of planned production break in January.
In South America, one contribution to the increase in industrial activities and thus increased orders of truck was the favourable financing terms in the Brazilian market.
Deliveries of Mack Trucks declined as a result of the declining demand in North America, so production was decreased in the fourth quarter of 2012.
