Low business start-up in Sweden in 2012 as the economy put stresses on entrepreneurs

Monday, 18 March 2013
Business start-ups in Sweden fell last yeas as it is believed, the recession slowed business creation in the country last year.

The number of new business started last year decreased by ten percent compared with 2011, according to figures from organisation, Nyföretagar Centrum (NFC).

Although eight out of ten businesses started in Stockholm lose large percentage of the capital, as well as tourist resorts such as Åre, Gotland and Bastad. In communities affected by major closures sprout new businesses, however, such as in Trollhättan and Södertälje.

Last year 61,775 new businesses were started - 10.9 percent fewer than the year before, according to unpublished figures from the NFC. This means that encouraging signs observed in the last two years has been reversed.
"We're back on the rather mediocre figures on new business creation as we had a few years ago. Business start up is too low, "said Harry Goldman, CEO of NFC.

Eight out of ten businesses started were in Stockholm as the capital lost to smaller tourist destination and resorts such as Åre, Gotland and Bastad. Other places such as Trollhättan and Södertälje and other communities affected by major business closures, new businesses have emerged in a much larger scale.

Traditionally, eight out of ten businesses started in Stockholm is being challenged as tourist resorts such as Åre, Gotland and Bastad are making progress. In communities affected by major closures sprout new businesses, however, such as in Trollhättan and Södertälje.

The development also means that other places such as Gothenburg and Malmö decreases in business start up because business creation there has also crumpled.
