200 more job to go from SAS than was announced during restructuring
Sunday, 27 January 2013More jobs are disappearing from troubled Scandinavian airliner, SAS than has previously made known. Reports out now say that 200 jobs will go in addition to the previously axed 800 positions.
Recently, when the company was struggling to restructure its operations in order to remain afloat and gain access to funding, it had said that 800 administrative services shall be axed. That turned out to be 1,000, meaning 200 extra workers have to have their matching orders.
SAS Communications official, Knut Morten Johansen told the Norwegian news website E24 that cuts will be made in several countries and in different areas of the Group.
"We can confirm that there are about 200 more administrative positions than was previously outlined," said Knut Morten Johansen of SAS to E24.
The original 800 cuts were first known when SAS announced its rescue plan 4XNG (4Excellence Next Generation) last fall, which was followed by tough negotiations with the workers unions of the company in November.
When the cuts were presented, it was clear that they would affect Norway and Denmark hardest because administrative functions were to move from there to be centralized in Stockholm.
The head of SAS says that many things in the restructuring process have now fallen into place, but he can not say if there will be more cutbacks in the coming periods.
SAS information Manager, Knut Morten Johansen, will not say anything about which departments the cuts are to hit.
"Movements in a large organization will always be dynamic, and I can not confirm anything beyond this," said Johansen, but adds that he has not heard that there will be more cuts.
