like the Social Democrats finally identify a tool to hit the Swedish
coalition parties with as their poll standing improve markedly
Friday, 24 February 2012With the new party leader in the man of Stefan Löfven at the helm, the Social Democrats in Sweden which has been limping and playing the second fiddle behind the Conservatives and the bourgeoisies government seems to be seeing a change in fortune recent opinion polling. The party’s opinion interest rose by 5.6 percentage points to 29.3 percent in February in an Ipsos survey for the Swedish newspaper, Dagens Nyheter.
The Moderate sloped by 3.6 percentage points to 32.1 percent.
"Now it seems the party has been structured to match forward again, "said Ipsos CEO Karin Nelson to Swedish newspaper, Dagens Nyheter which commissioned the survey.
She says it is not possible to determine whether the improvement is as a result of relief after Hakan Juholts departure or Stefan Löfven effect.
"What we mainly see is that the voters who went to the Left Party and Green Party are now returning to the Social Democrats. Left Party's rise in January seems more to have been connected with the crisis in the Social Democrats and not a Jonas Sjöstedt-effect, "according to Nelson.
She does not want to sound the all clear for the Social Democrats.
"There has been a rebound, but it that is permanent, we have no idea, "she told the paper.
Together, the three red-green opposition parties stand at 46.1 percent and the four non-socialist government parties 47.2 percent. Christian Democrats are increasing but still fall under the parliamentary threshold. The People Party and the Centre party are also progressing slightly, while the far right Sweden Democrats slope.
The differences between the blocks are the smallest in six months, only 1.1 percent compared with 11.6 percent in November.
