Sweden to soon launch new banknotes – samples presented

The Swedish central bank, Riksbank has presented the winner of the design of Swedish nw bank notes. He is Göran Österlund proposal "Cultural journey" that will form the artistic basis for the new banknotes.

“It is important that cash payments function smoothly and that cash handling is efficient. Today's banknotes are of good quality, but they are 25 years old. The new banknotes will be more modern and have better security features,” writes the Riksbank on its website on Tuesday.

According to the bank, the new banknote series will have a new denomination: the 200-krona note. Today there is a gap between the 100-krona note and the 500-krona note. Those who pay amounts between these figures often use several 100-krona notes. A 200-krona note will reduce the number of banknotes in people's wallets and in the retail trade.

In the spring 2011, the Riksbank announced a contest of designing the new Swedish banknotes. In April 2012 the contest ended. The jury selected "Cultural Journey" to be the winner and the General Council decided that Goran Baltic Lund contribution "Cultural Journey" will be the artistic point of departure for the new notes.
