Over 1000 Sony Jobs in Lund, Southern Sweden threatened

Wednesday, 22 August 2012
It now looks like the employees of Sony in Lund, Sweden are on the way of loosing their jobs.
According to Swedish media reports, the company summoned a meeting to talk about the sharp cuts planned at Sony mobile in Lund.

The reports hold that between 1,000 and 1,500 employees are poised to loose their jobs and the Japanese electronic company that recently bought the remaining stake in the Swedish telecoms giant, Ericson has decided to consolidate its internal economy .

The company management reportedly called all its Lund- based staff members to a meeting on Thursday at 9 am, according to Ulf Bengtsson, shop steward for Swedish engineers at Sony Mobile in Lund, reports Swedish news agency TT.

The company is currently reviewing its strategic plan and is considering completely moving its  development of new phone models to Japan. In Lund, the company wants to continue with only focus on  local software development.

In July, the company announced its plan to move its headquarters from Lund to Tokyo. The change was not intended to result in any substantial job cuts. But now they want it to go much further. The changes being discussed could mean that the current workforce of 3,000 people will almost be halved.
