Swedish competitiveness diving – worrying?
Wednesday, 04 September 2013
Sweden has been left behind in the latest competitiveness
classification, which we published earlier this morning, and being a
country, which always fights to be on top, the press is not taking
nicely.

The organization, World Economic Forum ranks countries by as how
their economies stake out in terms of performance over other using
several indications. Sweden was ranks sixth among the 148 countries. A
few years ago, Sweden was second, and this thus means that Sweden has
fallen in its competitions.
Persistently on top is Switzerland, same as last year followed by
Singapore and Finland. U.S. and Germany have overtaken Sweden since
last year.
Factors such as technological development, research, infrastructure,
education, and labour are included in the assessment. Sweden is
described as one of the most productive and competitive economies in
the world. So its shift in position has been attributed mainly to a
weaker macroeconomic environment and to some extent it very selective
labour market.
Public institutions are effective and reliable in Sweden, according to
the World Economic Forum. Private institutions also received high
scores but the labour market, however, could be more flexible,
according to the assessment.
