SAS management rejects pilots’ bargaining deal submitted on Saturday – says not goo enough but negotiation continues.

Sunday, 18 November 2012
On Sunday, this network has learnt that the SAS pilots bid which was submitted on last Friday as their own bargaining chip in the rescue deal has been rejected by the SAS management. This means that there could be the possibility that, if things remain this way, SAS planes could start falling from the sky next week. However, negotiations continue according to SAS.

On Friday night, it was said from the pilots’ side that they had submitted an offer to the management of SAS, accommodating all its requirements. Now it turns out that the management of SAS is not of the same opinion and has rejected their terms laid down by the pilot union.

The Danish news agency, Ritzau has learned that negotiations on SAS’ avings plan is still in progress because the pilots’ offer for the company is close to meeting SAS management’s requirements, the news agency writes early Sunday morning.

However, there must be progress in the negotiations for a new agreement between cabin crew and management in the airline SAS, to be attained so that the future of the airline is guaranteed, reports from Copenhagen say.

“We are experiencing a responsiveness by SAS,” a source in the negotiation told Ritzau. Last Saturday night, the Danish cabin crew union, CAU reported that there seemed to be some progress.

CAU leader, Helge Thuesen, said that it appeared to be a greater willingness to reach an agreement between the Danish cabin crew and management.
SAS had called a meeting on Sunday to decide whether the airline can continue to operate. SAS management said that the negotiations should be finished by then.
SAS had not disclosed where or when the meeting, which will determine its future, will be held.

“Immediately after midnight, handed the pilot unions an offer that meets all the demands of SAS on all the areas and it was expected that the proceedings would be concluded in a successful manner,” said Jens Lippestad, head of the Norwegian SAS pilots union and negotiator with SAS.

Copenhagen negotiations began last Friday and was expected to last all weekend. SAS has convened board meeting on Sunday to decide whether the conditions exist to drive the company forward. SAS management has said that the negotiation with the trade negotiations must be completed by then.

SAS says in a press release on Sunday morning that intensive negotiations were conducted over the last few days. “Unfortunately there is no agreement with any club yet,” the company said.

Negotiations are continuing now, before the SAS Board meets later today, a solution will be in place.
“At the meeting, the Board shall decide if the conditions for implementing the plan and continuing running the company in there. Full implementation of the plan is a condition for the banks and the major shareholders to make a loan available. Until then the Board meeting, the hard work will continue to reach an agreement on new collective bargaining agreement, and thus secure SAS future, “the company said.
