Denmark getting more worried about persistently finding drugs bananas

In three weeks, some 185 kilos of cocaine have been found among bananas on the way out to Coop stores in Denmark. This makes drugs found in bananas in Denmark a new questionable phenomenon. The police is now looking investigation this phenomenon.

Three times in three weeks, employees of two banana warehouses in Hesselagergård and Brøndby, Denmark respectively have now found more than 185 kilograms of drugs among the fruits.

All three times there have been talks of deliveries from Colombia. And all three times, the bananas were purchased to be sold in Coop supermarket around Denmark.

Two weeks ago, 40 kilos of cocaine was found in banana boxes in a warehouse in Hesselagergård. Last week it was 125 kilograms of cocaine that was found in another banana warehouse in Brøndby.

On Tuesday this week, an employee at Limbana in Hesselagergård found yet again 20 kilograms of cocaine among the bananas.
“A box that usually weighed 16 kg weighed suddenly weighed around 26 kilos. And when we took the lid off, we found something that should not be there,” says Jens Juul Jensen, Chief Information Officer of Coop to Danish radio and television.

The 185 kilos of cocaine at street level could be sold for more than Dkr100 million and the penalties for smuggling such drug is up to 16 years in prison.
“It is a very big catch, one of the largest in the history of Denmark,” said Deputy Police Commissioner Tormod Christensen from the Danish National Police Research Centre, NEC
The matter is being taken now very seriously, and they would helps support East Jutland Police to dig deeper into the matter to find out where the drugs were headed.
“We would naturally support the exploration in all the ways we possibly can,” says Tormod Christensen.
