 Thursday, 06 June 2013
Danish Police is complaining that its driving license database registry which also contain social security numbers was hacked in the summer of 2012, and there may have be changes made to its content.

A Swedish and a Danish hacker are suspected to have obtained access to, among other things Danish social security numbers as well as business numbers, according to a press release from the Danish Police.

The two suspects are said to have gained access by hacking into the Danish police database where the IT police holds several police records.

The Danish police and its IT department has found that police license registry with Social Security numbers, and information on wanted persons in the Schengen records’ database were hacked in the summer of 2012.

The perpetrators have in the period between April and August 2012 downloaded a large number of files from CSC’s mainframe systems. CSC is the department that deals with police database in the Danish police department.

The mainframe systems at CSC also records information from the Danish Tax authority, social security office and  Modernisation Agency. It is not established whether the perpetrators would have had access to these records, retrieved information in them, or changed information, but it can not be excluded.

The National Police have asked the Police Intelligence Service of the National Security Authority and IT security authority for the police to conduct further investigations into the matter. The studies are carried out in close collaboration with the Center for Cyber Security in the Defence Intelligence.

A Swedish citizen suspected in the case is currently in custody in Sweden previously arrested for in another crime, and the Danish police have now requested his extradition. Copenhagen Police on Wednesday arrested a Danish man suspected of also being connected to the case.
