Governing Moderate Party saw some light in a new opinion poll but still chasing the Social Democrats which seem disappearing in the horizon

Monday, 12 August 2013
The governing Conservative Moderates party of Sweden and its leader, and Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt received some increased voters support in August in a new opinion poll but are still chasing the Social Democrats somewhat as election nears.

Support for the Moderates party rose by around two percentage points to 28.4 percent in August, compared with 26.5 percent in July, according to polling organisation YouGov survey for the free paper Metro.

Fredrik Reinfeldt's virulent attack against the far right party, Sweden Democrats in his talks at the Swedish political retreat or Almedalstan on the island of Visby in early July may have paid dividends in the opinion polls, believes Jonas Hinnfors, professor of political science at the University of Gothenburg.

The speech showed a Moderate party leader having some fighting spirit other than previous descriptions of the Prime Minister as tired and passive, according to Jonas Hinnfors to Metro.

Among the other parties in the coalition government the People’s Party lost ground, while the Christian Democrats and the Centre Party increased their support slightly even though the latter two parties are still wobbling along the Parliamentary accession threshold of four percent.

The Alliance bloc narrowed the distance to the Red-Green in August. The gap narrowed to more than 6 percent from 9 percent in July.

Support for the far right party, Sweden Democrats fell to just below 10 percent.
The Left Party went back a percentage point, while the Social Democrats and the Green Party relatively remain still, writes Metro as shwon on teh table below
