More Swedish people suffer from Cancer and the amount is increasing

The number of Swedes affected with the cancer illness is on the increases and it looks like the rate of increase is accelerating, thus striking fear in many people asking the question "Why?"

The Swedish Cancer Foundation in a newly published reports observes and explains that one reason for this has to do with rapid demographic change in the country. The Swedish population is aging faster, but even taking this into account, it is still worrying as to why more and more are being hit by cancers, reports radio Sweden which leads in reporting on the issue.

Among the cancers, which have seen a large increase in incidences, are skin cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, and colon cancer.

Cancer of the oesophagus, stomach, and small intestine, however, is decreasing. One reason for this is thought to be altered dietary habits. Today, people are eating more fresh fruit and vegetables than before.

The increase in cancers for women in particular, and the cause is believed to be the huge increase in malignant melanoma and other skin cancers. Among women, these cancers have increased by 20 percent between 2010 and 2011.

Despite the fact that more people survive cancer in Sweden, it remains the leading cause of death in persons younger than 80 years. The cancer that takes most lives is lung cancer. More than 3600 people died of lung cancer in 2011.

The biggest risk factor of dying from cancer is smoking, followed by obesity and overweight, according to some studies. Other studies see alcohol as another big risk.
