SAS will force its workers to get lower pay in a bid to manage poor performace

Wednesday, 24 October 2012
The Scandinavian airliner,  SAS has a new austerity package to enforce, a strategy described by Scandinavian media sources as a strategy to make its employees to resign, a cheaper alternative that laying them off.

It has to do with the company asking them to accept pay cuts by applying for the company's services agreement to a 25 percent lower wages, writes Swedish tabloid paper, Aftonbladet and the Danish newspaper, Berlingske.

According to the journalist Richard Björnelid, author of the book "SAS - The art of lowering an airline," the staff at the company's marketing department have already been told of that development.

"The plan is to take the cabin crew last, because they are considered to have the strongest unions and management wants to put pressure on them by showing that other departments have already been through this, "says a source to  Richard Björnelid.

According to Richard Björnelids source, it is a clear violation of the Law on Employment in Sweden and employee groups have joined to issue proceedings in the Labour Court.

SAS denies in both the Danish paper,  Berlingske and Aftonbladet that the decision was made for a savings package, but confirms that it has for some time been working on a new savings plan that will replace the current one.

SAS supposed to be a high quality Scandinavian flyer but for some years now, the company has been under enormous pressure due to under performance. Owned by the Swedish, Danish and Norwegian governments, as major shareholders, the company has been bailed out twice from total collapse and its market share has been eaten up by the likes of Norwegian and even Ryanair.
