Ryanair hit back at SAS accusing it of spreading rumours

Tuesday, 08 January 2013
Report that Ryanair is manipulation the weighting systems in order to pay lower charges has been countered by the Ryanair. It CEO accused SAS for spreading rumour.

"That's not true," Michael O'Leary, CEO of Ryanair told Swedish news agency, TT during his brief visit in Sweden. He said that had to do with rumours coming from a competing airline, arguing that "We focus instead on continuing to grow."

SAS recently accused Ryanair of registering low starting weights of its flights resulting in lower fees. This has means that Ryanair has not been able to pay its fare share of the fees thus cheating.

Reports also hold that SAS is not the only company to call Ryanair on the issue. French airline, Air France, supports the allegations and German air traffic control authority, is also reported to be reviewing the basis for  the flight fees.

Ryanair has in the past argued that the company complies with the rules set by the Irish Aviation Authority.

Questioning the CEO at a press conference in Gothenburg about possible domestic flights in Sweden, he did not explicitly endorse such lines of operation for the now or the coming years. He did not see the Swedish domestic airline market being something as lucrative as he would want to jump into.
