Finnish financial group Sampo, ready to buy shares in Nordea
Friday, 05 October 2012It was hinted recently that the Swedish government would have to finally off load its shares in the giant bank, Nordea. The Finnish financial group, Sampo, is reportedly ready to buy those should they go out for sale.
According to Swedish newspaper, Svenska Dagbladet, Björn Wahlroos, the CEO of Sampo has explicitly made his interest known - "We are clear that we can take a small piece of the ownership in a sale., it's about to show the market that we're there, " he had said according to the paper.
Sampo already owns 21.3 percent stake in Nordea today. The Swedish state owns 13.5 percent. In early 2011, when the state sold 6.3 percent stake in Nordea, Sampo bought around 10 percent of the shares.
We reported recently that a sale of the state holdings in Nordea was drawing ever closer.
