The police officer who shot a 69-year-old man to death in Husby, in
NorthwWestern Stockholm a couple of weeks ago which triggered the
rioting in the Stockholm suburb has been charged suspected of
manslaughter and suspended from his post. The police officer however
has denied the offense.
It was a few weeks ago, Monday 13 May, that a 69 year old man was
shot to death by police in Husby in connection with a search warrant.
The man was later described as having mental problems and which was not
earlier identified or failed to be realised because of bias that the
police has against that community, according to a pressure groups.
Police was called to an address after reports that the man had
threatened people with a knife or machete. When police arrived at the
scene the man disappeared into an apartment, and when the police went
into the apartment, knowing that he had behaved threateningly
with a knife or machete, and police the open fire and shot the man, who
died on the spot.
According to the police's initial reports, the man was taken to the
hospital where he later died, but that turned out not to be have been
the truth.
"I regret that we went out with the wrong information. I put it on
miscommunication," said Lars Bystrom, of the Stockholm police to radio
Sweden on May 14 after the shooting
The event is said to been the driver of the rioting and unrest that has seen in several suburbs in Stockholm recently.
