Unpaid student loan in Sweden hit Skr 1billion

Swedish student loan in unpaid debts is now closer to Skr1 billion although the amount of those owning fell by 4,000 than a year ago. This happens as an additional 90,000 people who have taken student loans have ended in enforcement because of unpaid debts.

According to reports, on average, per person, the debt stands at Skr11,000. A majority of the indebted are young adults who studied at secondary level, for example those who went in for adult education, while 13 percent studied at university. More women owe student loans than men.

"We know that most people want to do the right thing, but something happened - such as they've been unemployed for instance. Many people have the right to reduced repayment due to low income, but many don't know abut that, "said Boel Magnusson from CSN, the Swedish student loan organisation.
