Another
pain for the Swedish economy as the tourists sector poised to be hit by
tourist warning after unrest in the suburbs of Stockholm
Friday, 24 May 2013
Sweden was classified recently the world as the 19th best tourist
destination. The expectation was that Sweden would continue to push to
becomes even better. But that dream seems to being dampen by the
current unrest taking place in the capital and its environ.
One evidence is that the British Foreign Office is warning the British people from travelling to the to areas affected by the rioting. They are also advised to avoid large crowds in the affected places, be careful and follow local news reports.
The British travel warning came in since Thursday and with
further recommendation also that there is a general risk of
terrorism in Sweden.
Sinilar information also came from the the U.S. Embassy in
Stockholm who advises its nationals not to reside in Swedish
areas where there have been riots.
An alert was sent by email to all Americans who are registered with the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm.
"Due
to the potential escalation of the riots, the U.S. Embassy cautions
U.S. citizens to avoid the areas of Husby, Tensta, Kista, Rinkeby, and
Fittja during the next several evenings. Even demonstrations intended
to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into
violence," the US Embassy writes.
It remains to see how this will play in the tourism world. However, Sweden generally is a very safe country
to travel in and the people are very welcoming. Irrespective of these
social disturbances, the country remain one of the best places in the
world to visit and we on this network urge people to come and see the
wonders of this wonderful country and why it is always classed among
the best places to live, do business and raise a family.
