The Jewish community in Malmö fear for their lives as the Mayor Reepalu shows that he is not interested in protecting them.

The Jewish community in Malmö, southern Sweden have lost all trust in their Mayor, Ilmar Reepalu. This is confirmed and supported by a letter the top authorities of the Jewish leadership in Sweden wrote to the leader of the Swedish Social Democrats party earlier.

The Malmö's strong man, the Social Democrat’s Ilmar Reepalu, in an interview with the magazine, Neo, argued that the far right, Sweden Democrats have "infiltrated" the Jewish community in Malmö. The aim should have been to use the church as a platform to spread hatred against the city's Muslims.

The plan would be that the Muslim and the Jews would then entre into a tough of war while the rest stand and watch.

As this comes from a leader of the city which they live, work and pay taxes and expected to be protected, the Jewish Community in Malmö fear that they have no protection. In a stern letter to the Social Democratic Party chairman, Stefan Löfven, they complained about how they cannot count on the Mayor to protect them from the threats of the growing presence of the far right in their backyard and especially they don’t know who to trust.

Mr Stefan Löfven responded by inviting Jewish community leaders in a Central Council meeting in early April.

The three presidents of the Jewish communities in Malmo, Stockholm and Gothenburg in a joint letter had spelt out that their trust for Reepalu has all been lost.

"We've always been surprised that the responsible politician in Malmö, Ilmar Reepalu, is accusing the Jewish community that they have responsibility for the problems we face in the form of hatred and intimidation.”

He then referred to the Middle East conflict and believed that the Jews as a group in Sweden ought to distance themselves from Israel. So it is our own fault when we are subjected to death threats, violence and harassment, - writes Fred Kahn, Lena Posner-Körösi and George Braun, among other, in the letter addressed to the Social Democratic chairman, Stefan Löfven.

The three wrote that no matter what their host leader in general will say in the future ", we do not rely on him."

In a written response the Social Democrat chairman, Stefan Löfven, wrote that after a conversation with the Jewish congregation chairman of Stockholm, Lena Posner-Körösi, he has invited the Jewish Central Council to a meeting.

"I want to emphasize the importance of maintaining the good relations between our party and the Jewish communities. I understand their reaction, and I want to be clear.”

Ilmar Reepalu on his part told the Swedish news network, TT that he has never been anti-Semitic. But that he will not try to do something to normalize relations with Jews.
“No, what can I do? They will not listen.

Also the Christian Democra Party leader Göran Hägglund has criticized Reepalu statement on Friday. In his newsletter, Hagglund writes that Malmö in the control Reepalu, has been in constant conflict with the Jewish community in Malmö and add that this persistent conflict shows lack of judgment from Reepalu.
