Friday, 04 May 2012
Swedish population has reached 9.5 million inhabitants and the milestone was passed yesterday according to reports from statistic Sweden.
Today's increase in population constitutes two thirds of increased immigration. Person number 9.5 millionth was likely an immigrant, writes Statistics Sweden, SCB.
Since 12 August 2004, when Sweden passed the 9 million mark, the annual population growth has varied between 36 000 and 84 000 people. The fastest rise from million to million was made between 1950 and 1969 when the population rose from 7 to 8 million. The increase took 19 years.
Within a decade, the population is estimated to reach 10 million. That is now it is expected that by 2021 Sweden expects that its population will reach 10 million.
If so, this increase from million to million will become the fastest that has occurred in Swedish history.
