Sweden is loosing its position in the countries with high level of safety
Monday, 21 May 2012
Sweden is loosing its international position when it comes to the league of safety and security. Swedish daily, Svenska Dagbladet noted a report from Sweden's social insurance organisation in a comparative perspective, commissioned by social security inquiry.
As for the social insurance - health, work injury and unemployment insurance - several countries have overtaken Sweden.
Since 2005, the Swedish unemployment insurance replacement rate has gone from second highest in the world to below the average for OECD countries.
In 2005, Sweden, for example, had the second highest unemployment insurance fund in the world relative to earnings. Now, Sweden has fallen below the average for OECD countries. Sweden has now ended up with countries such as Belgium, Denmark and Italy, a change which the authors call "remarkable", according to Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet.
The drastic deterioration of the social security means that Sweden is now about to leave the "Swedish model", according to professor of political science Joakim Palme, who was involved in writing the report.
