Sweden freezes aid to Mali

Friday, 23 March 2012
Sweden freezes aid to Mali after the military coup in the country. A total of Skr250 million was supposed to be provided in economic aid and support to the country this year.

According to Gunilla Carlsson of Swedish international aid organisation, Sweden will instead provide assistance to the country in the form of humanitarian aid through the UN.

Sweden took the decision after the European Commission earlier today suspended all aid to the West African country.
Gunilla Carlsson mentioned that Mali has received about Skr3 million from Sweden in aid.
