Nordic countries roll out tax evader's investigation team abroad

Friday, 08 March 2013
A Nordic elite unit with 400 tax experts will now seek out those hiding money in international tax havens, Swedish media report.

The plan is that Nordic countries will together create an elite team that will work as a pack and chase tax evaders around the place. Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland will mobilize up to 400 tax experts to locate money hidden away in various treasure places abroad, writes Swedish daily, Svenska Dagbladet.

Nordic Council of Ministers has since 2006 managed to get more than 40 countries to sign agreements on exchange of information for Nordic people who might have accounts in banks of tax havens. Only four tax havens are now remaining to be convinced to adhere.

The question is if most of the tax havens have already signed agreements to exchange information it means the Nordics have had their work cut out so why this physical idea to go out and start running around the place looking for tax dodgers? Could there be fears that the information exchange is in effective?
