More violence last night in the Stockholm suburb of Husby as some 300 or more youth descended on the town and caused carnage

Tuesday, 21 May 2013

For the second night in a row, some adolescent youths descended on the Stockholm suburb of Husby  and its surrounding area and started attacking the police. As the tussle started gaining ground, several cars were torched, and even a bus transportation service was also immediately set alight.
Seven or eight people have been arrested according to radio Sweden. Cars were set on fire and the fire service and police were subjected to stone throwing. Somewhere between 250 and 300 young people had moved into the area and  got involved in the violence, vandalism and setting fires, according to police reports.

Police confirmed to radio Sweden that, seven or eight were arrested for crimes related to the rioting. No real serious injuries have been reported but for some minor ones sustained by the police.
At 02 o'clock the atmosphere was spiteful and four cars had been set on fire. According to police, the unrest has spread to adjacent Kista. Unlike the first night, the second night of violence has seen increased robbery and assaults.
The unrest also spread to Fittja, south of Stockholm where some 20 youths threw stone on subway trains during the night. Fires were set up in three cars and a container. Here, too, fire-fighters were met with flying paving stones, according to the county police communication centre in Stockholm.

This was a second night in a row, which saw violent disturbances erupting in Husby outside Stockholm where cars were set on fire and in which youths were very happy to attack the police and emergency services with rocks and stones.
Police release dogs and others equipments in order to protect the emergency services.
Police inspector Sebastian Sennerby,  incharge of violence control, told radio Sweden that "We have been exposed to a lot of violence, it has been quite a stressful situation for us. We have had to work very hard in order to pacify the emergency services.
Police officers were subjected to stone throwing."
He continued that "We have four to six police officers milder injuries. They have been subjected to a fairly persistent rain of stone and have met a lot of flying objects."
According to police, those involved in the fracas range from 12 to 13 year olds to adults whom police describe as "known criminals".
Among the residents of the area, the troubles during the night have invited strong reactions.
All this started when a 69 year old man was kill on Monday a week ago by the police. Rami Al-khamisi from the youth organization, The Megaphone, said that the violence is strongly linked to the incident where police shot a 69-year-old man to death a week ago.

"This anger by young people is directed against the police but also a symptom of a larger societal problem where we have a generation of young people who feel powerlessness, hopelessness about their future and feel let down by several social functions," he said to Swedish television.
