Sweden is currently struggling I with increasing floorings here and there caused by persistent heavy rains accompanies by increasing meting mountain cap ice. But it would have been thought that a country like Sweden will be able to manage such contingencies nicely. Yeah wrong!

A new report from Swedish Civil Contingency Agency (MSB) say that in Sweden there are 18 towns out there that would not withstand a major flood. Stockholm, Gothenburg and Karlstad are among the cities  identified.

The 18 urban areas with significant flood risk also see that their emergency services is not sufficient alone to clear comprehensive flood, writes Swedish daily Svenska Dagbladet.

These Centers are identified in a recent report from the Agency for Civil Contingencies, (MSB), which convened an emergency meeting on Monday after torrential rains in Småland.

already many homes in Småland have been hit hard by recent floods. Large parts of the municipal sewers are undersized and can not handle the water masses, according to the insurance companies' trade association Swedish Insurance.

Municipalities are called to begin identifying risk areas to avoid damage to property.
"In our opinion, the municipalities must adopt climate adaptation plans, that is, being able to identify reas that are vulnerable to heavy rainfalls, says Staffan Moberg who is a lawyer at the Swedish Insurance.

Every year, floods cost insurers about Skr300 million. The economic costs of emergency and uninsured property reaches about Skr100 million annually, according to the Swedish Insurance Association.

it is reported that 80 percent of cases depends flood  happens in a so-called back pressure system whereby the water flows into the house via the sewer system.
