Higher tax for foreigners in Switzerland

Tuesday, 06 March 2012
You are a very wealthy person living in the UK or in Sweden or you are working in the financial sector and the government decides increase taxes on wealth in those sectors. You get annoyed and decide that you want to move to a low tax country with a very high quality of life and Switzerland comes into the fore.

You move there and start living your tax-free boring life. Then the government in Switzerland decides that there will be higher taxes for foreigners. True? Oh yeah!

Switzerland has taken a step towards higher taxes for wealthy foreigners living in the country. On Tuesday, the lower house approved a proposal to raise taxes, which will now be presented to the higher House.

The socialists expected to block the proposal, as they want, the more favourable tax treatment for foreigners to be scrapped altogether. The tax system in Switzerland has led many of the worlds’ richest to settle there, such as Swedish Ingvar Kamprad and formula one motor star Michael Schumacher.
You are still welcome to Switzerland though
