Fall in Swedes taking part in official statistic studies
Sunday, 22 July 2012
The amount of Swedish people taking art in official data collection especially studies sanctioned by the government departments have declined dramatically in recent years.
Media reports in Sweden say that the lack of more people taking part in statistical data collection could thus means that there could be misleading data being presented when estimates are to be design for planning and projections.
In recent years, statisticians have encountered serious problems, which could greatly impair the results of surveys of things such as unemployment. More and more people don't want to participate in the studies. It seems simply that the Swedes have had enough of answering survey questions.
In May, the shortfall in the survey for unemployment stood at 28.1 percent. So that means that approximately the situation of almost every fourth person is not accounted for in the investigation. The loss for similar study in 2005 was "only" 18.6 percent.
The decreasing number of respondents would mean that there will be the risk of Statistics, which is used to make important decisions, to be misleading.
