Church sold of almost nothing in Sweden as for a long time no body worshiped there

Saturday, 28 April 2012

The increasing peganisation of Sweden has seen churches left vacant. Unfortunately, its surroundings such as its grave yard have to be taken care of. So a smart thing to so is to sell it irrespective of the price.

This is what happened to Örja Church in Knysna, Sweden were it was sold to  a private person - for an öre – less than a US dime. However, the organ, the cemetery, the baptismal font and the church bells are not included. It is the first church surrounded by the cemetery sold in Sweden, writes the Swedish church paper, Church Times.

“The land has no value, and also a highway passes next to it that makes it to be a constant wall of sound over the area. We are very happy to have found a buyer, and now the church remains,” says the pastor Bengt Karlgren to the Church Times.

The church was abandoned in 2004, and had been unused since 1996. To renovate the church had cost nearly Skr17 million.

Now it is thought that the church should become a home for the buyer and his family.
