Britain hops off double deep
recession after three quarters of persistent decline
Britain hopped out of recession in the third quarter after
posting its strongest quarterly GDP growth in five years, of 1 percent
UK GDP rose 1.0 percent in the third quarter compared with the previous
quarter. Compared to the prior year quarter, GDP was unchanged,
Analysts expected that GDP would rise by 0.6 percent compared with the
previous quarter, and fall by 0.5 percent from the same quarter the
year before, according to Bloomberg News forecast average.
Industrial production rose 1.1 percent in the third quarter compared
with the previous quarter. Service production rose 1.3 percent, while
construction output fell 2.5 percent.
