Amphetamine on an exponential increase in Sweden
Wednesday, 07 August 2013
Swedish Customs have seized 110 kilograms of amphetamines during the
first half of this year. In the same period last year, 50 kg was seized
and the year before 26 kg was seized by the Swedish customs officials.
This is an exponential increase and the question is why the increase.

During the first half of the year, Swedish Customs Service seized
amphetamine at a street value of Skr27.5 million, twice as much as the
same period last year. Through boats, cars and air, various
routes the drugs take to reach Sweden, which has become one of Europe's
leading amphetamine markets, writes Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter (Daily
News).
The drivers for the increase has been attributed to no specific reason
but some authorities say it may be due to increased improved
cooperation between Sweden and European colleagues.
However, it could also be because amphetamine has a big and lucrative
market in Sweden. Dagens Nyheter writes that Amphetamine is the drug
that Swedes use the most, after cannabis and some group of narcotic
classified drugs. It is not just the heavy use that makes the drug
attractive but the fact that it is a drug that is loved with party
milieus, just like cocaine.
Compared to cocaine though, amphetamines are significantly cheaper than
cocaine. One gram of amphetamine can cost Skr250, compared with cocaine
costing between Skr 800 and Skr1000 per gram.
