Sweden call on Switzerland to check on the jet fighter, Gripen deal

Swedish defense, Minister Karin Enstrom is in Switzerland for a meeting with her Swiss colleague Ueli Maurer. The focus is on a possible joint acquisition of the next version of the Gripen, according to a press release from the Swedish Department of Defense.

A Memorandum of Understanding will be signed on to explore possibilities for enhanced cooperation in defence field.

Negotiations between the Swedish Defence Export Agency and the Swiss authorities on the aircraft purchase is reported to be carried on. There is a lot of views about a possible sale of Gripen to Switzerland.

In November of last year Switzerland preliminary made a decision to purchase 22 Gripen. But no contract has yet been signed and there are competitors who are working hard for Switzerland to change, such as the French.

In late February, for example the French producer, Dassault, placed a new bid to the Swiss authority. Then Saab was hit by a leaked of a test report on the Gripen, from 2008 in a newspaper report on the Gripen's performance which showed that the machines had mediocre performance. And these leaks to the Swiss newspapers have continued ever since.
