The Swedish Red - Green are poise to lead the country if opinion polls remain trusted
Friday, 13 July 2012
The Swedish governing coalition, the Alliance and the current Prime
Minister, Fredrik Reinfeldt, could be described as working extremely
hard to improve situations in the country and the economy.
Nevertheless, the public does not seem to understand what they are
doing.
After gaining a slim majority in the last general election, it was then
clear that if the opposition had a better leader and good communication
machinery that feed the public their alternative politico-economic
positions, then the government would be dead by the time the next
election time comes.
It looks like things are shaping in that direction because for the
better part of the last 6 months the opposition made up of their own
coalition, the red-green coalition have been leading the opinion polls.
If this continues, the we'll see a socialist left wing government in
Sweden once again.
In the latest opinion poll for example, conducted by a polling
organisation Skop published on Friday, the Social Democrats, Left Party
and the Greens, which make up the red-green coalition have a combined
poll rating of 48.9 percent of voter support, while the Alliance of the
Prime Minister Reinfeldt has 46.0 percent.
The Social Democrats party on its own continue to remain the biggest
political party in the country and grew by 2.3 percentage points to
34.2 percent while the Conservatives Moderates lost 0.1
percentage points to 31.0 percent of voter support.
Christian Democrats would be kicked out of the parliament if election
were held today as they lost their parliamentary threshold. This is
although they gained increased support by 0.8 percentage points to 3.7
percent.
Far rights, Sweden Democrats got 4.7 percent of voter support, a
decline of 2.3 percentage points. The party is thus the parliament's
second smallest.
The survey was conducted between June 20 and July 9 among 1000 Swedish
citizens aged between 18 and 84 years who were randomly questioned, "If
elections were to he held today who will you vote for?"
