Swedish people see increased taxes in 2013 and it will hit nearly half of the population

Friday, 14 December 2012
Almost half of the Swedish people, 44 percent of the population will pay higher taxes next year. The main reason is that eight county councils are raising county council taxes. Total local taxes, on average 31.73 percent, will increase in 140 municipalities in 2013.

According to statistic Sweden, among the municipalities, 89 will raise the tax rate which seven will lower it. The highest increase occurs in Habo with 1.09 percentage points, followed by Lindesberg and Dorotea with one percentage point. Österåker and Norrtälje lower rates the most by 0.25 and 0.20 percentage points respectively. Of the seven municipalities that lower the rate, only Kil does not belong to Stockholm County.

Eight county councils will raise the tax rate while four will lower it. This decrease is due to a so-called tax transfer where county councils lower the rate and municipalities raise it, Statistic Sweden say.
