Swedish government proposes billion investment in new youth employment package

As the Swedish youth unemployment looks like an epidemic to hit the Swedish government, the governing Alliance coalition is proposing funding for 18,000 new training places worth Skr8.1 billion in a new youth initiative  that will stretch to the next four years.

This was the lofty promise made by the governing  coalition when they met at Skåne, southern Sweden today. Skåne is one of the regions in the country with extreme high levels of youth unemployment and a region where the far rights have been gaining more advantage as they appeal to the disenfranchised youths with promises.

The promise also include new training places for adults with 18,300 new full-time places next year. Major focus is on municipal adult education, but also what the government calls vocational training with a greater focus on vocational training. This will see funding for about 9000 places in these types of adult education.

With regard to higher education, there is promise of  4200 more places than was previously planned for the next three years and a permanent expansion of engineering programs which will see increased in their demand.

"When it is difficult to get a job more  people want to get education and the state of the economy is no is that we need to accelerate training opportunities," said Minister for Education, Jan Björklund (People's Party).

The government is also dedicating more money for those starting a new jobs by further lowering the costs employers spend in hiring young people who have been unemployed for more than a year.
