Swedish government popularity could be due to expensive PR strategy

Wednesday, 12 September 2012
The Swedish government has continues to remain popular within the Swedish voting population thanks to a growing spending on PR or what could be described as "spin".

One of the reasons why the US president, Barack Obama is considered to have suffered in his popularity is that he has failed to explain his policies to the US masses. As such, there are lost of good intensions and things he has achieved in his policies but he has failed to explain to the people what he has been doing. Thanks to former president, Bill Clinton, who took his time to "converse" with the people thus making the Americans to start understanding that their economy is not suffering because of Obama's weak policies but because of the Republicans non co-operation.

The Swedish government would not want things to go in the Obama direction in Sweden therefore the administration is on the offensive even though the Swedish economy is said to be growing. This is why the Swedish government offices acted to spent Skr 40 million on promotional services, as at the time of this posting.

The Swedish business daily, Dagens Industri reports that they have gone through the Cabinet Office purchases from October 2010 until August 2012 and have observed some spending direction, which show that more money is spent on PR or "spin".

With a bill of Skr10.7 million spent on PR agency Gullers for the largest delivery of PR and Communications services to the Swedish Cabinet Office, it also follows that by similar services from Blomquist, Futurniture and Bazooka were also bought.

Among the largest and regular customers of the PR services is the healthcare sector. This sector has seen some of the large deregulations in the recent Swedish corporate policy restructure with private firm taking over the provision of healthcare in various forms. Then there has been scandals of neglect of old people in care homes while huge profits from those companies are ferried abroad. In addition, hospitals have been struggling with bed shortages and long waiting times and queuing.
