Swedish government earmarks billions to tackle long-term unemployment

The Swedish government wants to invest a total of Skr2.1 billion extra over the next four years in a package that will prevent long-term unemployment in Sweden.

Nearly half of the money will go to more internship places, 9500 next year and the year after 4 750 places with the employment service also equipped to assisted the long term to be able to find an employer who sets up with internships.

The special employment support for long-term unemployed is proposed to be permanent from 2014, which is estimated to cost Skr876 million for the periods 2014 - 2016.
