Swedish business leaders weary of the Social Democrat leadership's future economic plan
Thursday, 09 August 2012
One of the tools leading to the growth in popularity of the Social
Democrats in Sweden today is the Social democrat's drive to cut down
youth unemployment to a very low level f voted to power. But business
leaders in Sweden are getting weary of that proposal.
They
instead have more confidence in the current Conservatives coalition
government, a new opinion study for the Swedish business daily, Dagen's
Industri carried out by the polling organisation, Scope show.
50 percent of business executives believe that the Conservatives have
the best policies to tackle youth unemployment and only 23 percent
believe in the Social Democrats are better, according to Skop's
inquiry.
This despite the fact that the Social Democrat's the new party
leader, Stefan Löfven, tried to make the issue of youth unemployment
one of his major party policies. Some of the party's proposals are all
about training, contracts and internships, with the cost of higher
payroll taxes for companies.
Just a few weeks ago, a survey from the polling organisation, Sifo
showed that Swedish people had the greatest confidence in the Social
Democrats when it comes to labour market policy. But that does not seem
to apply to the Swedish business leaders.
Analysts are concluding that companies hate the Social Democrats
policies because it will force them to train young people and they will
not find it easy to hop abroad and collect cheap and manoeuvrable
skills from the cheap places such as eastern Europe.
The Social Democrats' proposal to skip the policy of the Alliance
coalition to reduce employer contributions for the young, in order to
be able to finance other measures, have also been seen by business
leaders as not a very attractive moves.
